CAlmaggioreAfter the Calmaggiore you reach the Piazza dei Signori, the traditional meeting place and meeting place for inhabitants of the city. The Piazza, the medieval name is surrounded by some of the most famous monuments citizens, as the Torre Civica, the Palace of the prefecture and the Palace of the fourteenth century.
The latter is certainly the most representative monument of the city for its major urban, to be linked to the period that has affected more deeply about the history and character of the city for the recent history that has seen half after the war and with firm determination rebuilt, almost a symbol of the rebirth of Treviso.
Piazza dei SignoriIts construction in brick Guelph with battlements, dates back to 1217 and was intended to accommodate the municipal courts and it was believed the Supreme medieval civic meeting (of three hundred members, hence the name). The palace, the compact body of Romanesque volumes, is composed of a ground floor partially transformed in 1500 into a monumental loggia, and a huge frescoed hall, illuminated by triple-open in a brick wall.
On the side of the Palace, rebuilt a staircase in early 1900, leading to the exhibition (of 46.5 meters for 20) with roof trusses of a double original form, supported by modiglioni shaped and originally painted. The Roman wall decorations, only partially preserved, consists of bands with scenes of hunting and love between the heads of the trusses.
Piazza dei SignoriOn 7 April 1944 the palace was, after bombing, the collapse of some walls and the inclination of others, while defects were stolen breaking up, and immediately after the war boldly raised. At the foot of the walls to the east (of staircase) and some rocks on the north steps on the sidewalk and show the dates and stages of reconstruction that was accomplished by using all the material carefully retrieved and stored after the bombing.
The range of frescoes inside the attic (dating back to 1500) on the badges of all Venetians mayor, was faithfully reconstructed by the restorer Mario Botter. On the back wall is a note with faux architectural decoration, allegorical figures and religious style of Veronese. The exhibition is currently home to the City Council and is used for exhibitions and conferences.
La Torre Civica rises above the prefecture, remaking of the nineteenth century town hall. Top of the Tower stands the Campanone, which since the thirteenth century echoes at 9 and 17 of every day to mark the beginning and end of the work of salaried workers, and noon to join the chorus of all the bells of the city. The bell rings even second, one that dates back to the Middle Ages, at each meeting of the Municipal Council, and also at midnight on Dec. 31 to wish a good new year with Treviso, and thirteen of 7 April to remember the tragic bombing of 1944 .
To the left of the Prefecture is the Palazzo del Podesta, also renovated in 1800: under the arcades opens the exhibition market dell'Artiginato Artistic Treviso.
